Description

A current passing through a wire creates a magnetic field around it.

Equipment

  • Short wire
  • Compass
  • DC Power supply (10 A)
  • Push button with 1 Ohm resistances.

Instructions

  • Plug the power supply to the wire through the push buttons with the 1 Ohm resistance
  • Place the compass above or below the wire
  • Push the button for a few seconds and watch the needle move
