Description

Two speakers set 1 m apart output sound at an adjustable frequency from a signal generator. A microphone is swept through the space between the two speakers to see the magnitude of the standing sound wave.

Equipment

  • frequency generator
  • two speakers
  • oscilloscope
  • microphone
  • various cables

Instructions

Connect the two speakers to the output of the frequency generator and place the speakers 1 m apart. Connect the input of the microphone to the oscilloscope. Generate an audible signal on the speakers and place the microphone or sweep the are at various distances between the speakers. The change in signal should be observed on the oscilloscope's screen.
