PIRA index: 5K20.20

Description

Eddy current are created in the metal of the tube as the magnet is falling through it. This eddy current creates an opposite magnetic field slowing down the fall of the magnet.

Equipment

  • Two metallic tubes
  • Cylindrical magnet
  • Similar looking piece of metal (for comparison)

Instructions

  • Put the two tubes next to each other
  • Drop the magnet and the piece of metal in their respective tube at the same tube.
