Description

A balloon expands when the air pressure is reduced around it. A balloon in glass jar connected to a vacuum pump will expand to take the entire volume of the jar

Equipment

  • Bell jar
  • Little balloon
  • Surface with seal and hole to the vacuum pump
  • Vacuum pump
  • Straw

Instructions

  • Place the rubber sheet on the the circular plate and make sure the holes are aligned
  • Place the balloon in the middle
  • Place the bell jar on top of the balloon making sure nothing is between the rim and the rubber sheet.
  • Connect and turn on the vacuum pump
